When Todd Schroeder performed at Sonora High School's annual Todd Schroeder Young Artist Grant benefit concert last April, he announced to the audience that he was performing under the same lights as he did as a Sonora High senior in 1984, and it was time for an upgrade.
Now, more than 30 years later, the Sonora Area Foundation has awarded the high school a $59,000 grant to fund the second and third phases of an auditorium lighting project, the Sonora Bee reports.
The foundation also gave $50,000 to WATCH Resources, a nonprofit that supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to buy a transportation van.
"All of the buses are over 10 years old, but the bigger challenge is that all drivers of these buses must possess a commercial drivers license," says Clint Bower, executive director of WATCH.
"Having a passenger van that can accommodate 10 passengers will enable WATCH to transport participants to community based activities six days per week."
